How to achieve good health and wellbeing!

Exercise is one of the keys to enhancing health & wellbeing

When you start to feel overweight and lethargic, feel stressed out or may be reaching ‘burn-out’?  If you are working too many hours, feel burdened by personal responsibilities or find yourself in a situation you feel is impossible to get out of.  Joining a yoga or tai chi class may be the answer, in helping you to unwind and relax.

However, participating in some form of regular physical activity will certainly help to make you feel better, improve your body shape, maintain a healthy weight and get a good night’s sleep. The World Health Organization recommends that Adults should participate in some form of physical activity for at least 30 minutes on 5 days a week, to maintain good health.  Children need to exercise for an hour a day, 7 days a week.

Too often, people use the excuse of ‘lack of time’ for choosing not to exercise.  Yet, would you not agree, that exercising regularly is imperative for overall improved health and wellbeing?  Procrastination can be a key factor in avoiding exercise if you see it as a chore.  Choose something you enjoy doing for fun such as Zumba, Salsa, Swimming, Runing, Walking out in Nature, Cycling etc.  If it’s fun, and you enjoy doing it, you are more likely to commit to it.

Joining a Yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi class will also enhance health and wellbeing, as does daily meditation.   Practicing meditation first thing in the morning, helps clear some of the emotional clutter, and just before bedtime also promotes a good night's sleep.  The point is, when you start to give your brain and mind a rest, you start to develop clarity and perspective on any given situation you are now facing.  Also, giving the brain a rest helps you to think more clearly and make decisions much more easily, so why not try it?

Whatever you choose to do, once you take the plunge, you will not look back.  Regularly exercise alleviates stress, emotional disturbance, muscular aches and pains as well as colds, flu and other illnesses that may occur when you are feeling unfit and run down. You owe it to yourself to improve your health and fitness in order to avoid illness.  Invest in your body by regularly maintaining it and it won't let you down.  If you feel de-motivated then why not hire a personal fitness trainer, or encourage one of your friends to be your fitness buddy?
